Hello and Welcome to Travel Talk Cafe

Hi! I’m Gail and here’s a bit about myself…

I spent 20 years in the travel business (starting in 1998) as a travel agent. I’ve done some travelling over the years, though not as much as I had planned. So that’s one of my goals, to see more places and do more things… take as many road trips as I can, and share anything worth sharing, here on this site.
I live in a beautiful part of the world (at least I think so!), and hope to share as much as I can about my local area, Atlantic Canada.

I DO love All-Inclusive and beach vacations. That’s why you just might see me write about them once in a while. There are so many ways to enjoy travel. I like going to a resort to relax. Not having to cook or clean. I can be active or lazy, get out and see the area …or not. I personally like to see the countryside, meet some local people and get a feel for a place.

Where you won’t find me…

Backpacking through Asia. Well, backpacking through anywhere. That’s not to say I wouldn’t go on a nice walking or biking tour, or something even a little adventurous. But I’d show up with a plan, and likely something already booked.
I do like a good city stay. And I will pound the pavement checking things out, local places and touristy spots alike. I have children in sports, and this takes me on road-trips, with many hotel stays…

As for my career and background in the travel industry… it’s definitely had an impact on how I view the world and the people in it that are travelling. I have loved helping people realize their travel dreams, big and small. I’ve had a lot of great clients over the years… Of course there are some who shouldn’t leave the comfort of their own country… I’ll save those stories for another time and place…

On a Personal Note

To be honest, 2020/2021 has had great impact on many lives, some for the better, some not. The industry I spent 20 years of my life in, came to a grinding halt and I saw many friends and colleagues lives turned upside down. Now, a year later, most have picked up and moved on, and those who remain in the travel business are persevering. There is light at the end of the tunnel, so to speak.

More locally, businesses have closed and re-opened, some couldn’t recover and called it quits. To say it has been a challenge, well, an understatement for sure. I have fared well in this respect and have not suffered they way others have.

On a personal note, I am growing and learning each day. My Christian faith and love for the Lord is stronger now than ever. This part of my life has been impacted the most, and I appreciate everyday things so much more! I look for the beauty in simple things, like my love of books, and beautiful flowers. It’s time to bring my love of travel, Jesus, family, books and beauty together in my online space!
