Alt Hotel Halifax Airport
Overview
Modern, simple, and super convenient, the 169 room Alt Hotel by Le Germain, has been open since 2013.
It is the newest hotel of the four closest to the airport. While the other three do offer complimentary shuttles, the Alt offers a pedestrian walkway across to the airport.
This means NO hassles with getting luggage in and out of shuttles, or waiting in the freezing cold in a lineup of people, hoping there’s room on the shuttle so you make it in time for your flight. You can sleep in a little longer and still arrive plenty early to maneuver through security stress free.
Parking Options
The Alt doesn’t have its own dedicated parking lot, however they do offer special rates for parking in the outdoor lot next to the hotel, or the indoor parkade. They offer 8 night or 15 night parking packages.
Alternatively, you can use the park and fly lot and take shuttle back and forth.
Rooms
Rooms are available with one queen bed or two queen beds. Modern and simple rooms keep to the hotels style. The beds are comfy and make for a good nights sleep. There’s a TV And work area, free wifi, and modern bathroom with tub and shower. I liked the room.
Lobby and food options
The ALT Hotel Halifax lobby sports a bar and common area as well as a small inconspicuous check in counter.
This common area features a bar and the Altcetera Café with 24 hour food available. Here you’ll find pre-made sandwiches, soups, salads, and much more. We ate here and while it’s a bit pricey, it’s convenient and healthy. The food is pretty good.
Another option for food, depending on the hour, is to walk across the pedestrian walkway to the airport, and take the escalator down. Right ahead you’ll find a few other fast food options like Tim Hortons, A&W, Subway.
In the lobby /common area there are tables and chairs to eat at and relax, computers for your use, and a pool table.
Other features
On the lower main level you’ll find a gym and heated pool if you want to unwind and keep up your workout routines.
Free wifi is available throughout the hotel and computers to use in the lobby.
Another great feature is the hotel was designed to be an eco-friendly building. It’s built to be energy efficient and uses energy-saving lighting.
Final thoughts
For me personally, I prefer to stay here when I need a stopover hotel for an early flight. I like that the parking is right beside the hotel and that I can walk across a pedestrian walkway to get to the airport.
I don’t mind the simple and modern style of the Alt. It’s not luxurious or fancy but very well suited for its purpose. And the beds are comfortable, which is important!
